Act Two Discussion

Determine two or more themes or central ideas of a text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account; provide an objective summary of the text.

EQ: Determine a central idea of The Crucible and analyze its development over the course of the text.

Starter:

Write a 3-5 sentence summary of act two.

Then, identify a main idea based off of the summary.

Your Definition: 

Activity: Identify an example of hysteria.

Activity: 

1.  Chalk Talk

Take out your double entry journal from yesterday.

At your tables, share one quote that you identified with your reaction.

Select one quote that you would like the class to discuss further.

Write your quote on a large sheet of paper.

Rotate around the room, sharing your reactions to the different quotes.

Try to connect it to our big idea of fear or the main idea of act two.  

2.  Enemies from Within

Read Senator McCarthy's speech from the 1950's.

Then, in a TPEQEQEA paragraph, compare the ideas in The Crucible to the ideas in the speech.
